Secret Soup Company operates Checkpoint directly. Secret Soup Company creates participatory art, events, and interactive experiences. Checkpoint is one project in that body of work.

Program description

Checkpoint is an interactive SMS art project. Participants opt in in person by tapping a physical Checkpoint sticker or object that opens a pre-addressed, prefilled text message in the participant's own messaging app. The participant must manually press Send to begin. Once opted in, the participant may receive conversational replies and occasional continuation or check-in messages related to the project.

Consent and opt-in

Participants join only by sending the first text themselves. Tapping the object or sticker does not subscribe anyone automatically. The attached card or signage identifies the program as Checkpoint by Secret Soup Company and displays the SMS disclosure before the participant sends a message.

Message frequency

Message frequency varies. Messages are primarily conversational responses to the participant's texts, with occasional continuation or check-in messages related to the project.

Message and data rates

Message and data rates may apply depending on the participant's mobile carrier and plan. Participants are responsible for any carrier charges.
